Farmers Insurance, Insurance History

One of the milestones in our history began when we announced that the Foremost was purchased by Farmers Insurance Group® and became a member of the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies®. The acquisition, completed on March 7, 2000, launched Foremost back into product markets we hadn’t sold since the 1970s. We soon began offering motorcycles and off-road vehicle insurance, including coverages for snowmobiles and golf carts. Over the next four years.
we expanded our product offerings to also include personal watercraft, boats and collectible auto.

In 2004, we were endorsed by AARP to offer our motorcycle insurance to their members.

In 2007, we launched ForemostAgent.com, an updated resource Web site for agents and prospective agents to get important information about our Company and our products.

Farmers® also greatly expanded the products offered through our Independent Agent distribution network by launching the DISTINCTCHOICE® product line. With DISTINCTCHOICE Auto and Home, Independent Agents in select states could now offer standard Auto and Home to complement our Foremost specialty lines products. Then, Farmers acquired Bristol West®, a leading provider of liability and physical damage automobile insurance, which expanded the number of states where Auto insurance was available through Independent Agents.

In 2008, we added coverages specific to scooters, neighborhood electric vehicles and we overhauled our mobile home program yet again with the launch of DISTINCTCHOICE Manufactured Home.

In 2009, Foremost insurance launched both Foremost DISTINCTCHOICE Auto and Foremost DISTINCTCHOICE Home. We also reconfirmed our commitment to Michigan and our roots when Farmers announced a multi-million dollar expansion of our Caledonia, Michigan campus.
