American Family Auto Insurance, Car Insurance

American Family is the nation's tenth-biggest auto insurer, and its policyholders give it slightly higher ratings than insurance giant State Farm when it comes to claims handling. It also earns kudos in a survey of wealthy policyholders. American Family has been Better Business Bureau-accredited since 2000, with a history of handling customer complaints in a trustworthy manner.
However, American Family is available in only 19 states, and -- although its financial stability ratings and customer feedback are quite respectable -- it doesn't shine in reviews like the top-rated USAA and Amica Mutual.

J.D. Power and Associates and ConsumerReports.org both compare American Family with other insurance companies based on large surveys of policyholders. Insurance Journal recounts a survey of high-income policyholders, and the Better Business Bureau rates American Family based on customer complaints. We found plenty of policyholder feedback at Viewpoints.com, as well.
