Auto Insurance Coverage, Car Insurance

The Interinsurance Exchange of the Automobile Club -- which serves only Southern California AAA members -- is one of the top auto-insurance companies in the nation for financial strength, according to Weiss Ratings. Its customers say it offers good policy choices and good prices, and it gets high marks for reliability from the Better Business Bureau. However, it gets only average ratings for customer satisfaction in J.D. Power and Associates' massive policyholder survey.
Even if you live in the service area of southern California, reviews suggest that you may want to check out other insurers that get more glowing reviews, including USAA (for military families) and Amica Mutual.

J.D. Power and Associates rates car-insurance companies -- including the Automobile Club of Southern California's car insurance offering -- based on a survey of more than 25,000 policyholders. The Better Business Bureau collects customer complaints and gives the company a letter grade based on how it handles them. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners also collects customer complaints (those filed with state insurance regulators) and calculates how many each insurer has had upheld against it for its size. Weiss Ratings shows which auto insurers are the strongest financially.
